• Greece: Engineering an Empire

Western Civilization has been influenced by many cultures, from Rome to America, but it was born in Ancient Greece. Centuries before Julius Caesar conquered much of the known world, the Ancient Greeks were laying a foundation that has supported nearly 3000 years of European history. Greece is a story about the human drive to explore, to wonder, to be curious. Their ruins now communicate that drive. Over 1000 years, this strong and charismatic people strategically harnessed the materials and people around them to cre...

In 438 BC the Parthenon was completed. This masterpiece is the crowning achievement for the Greek people. Without Alexander the Great, it is possible Greece's Golden Era would have been just a footnote in history. Tens of thousands would die during Alexander's relentless attacks on Persia and Egypt, yet, his armies carried Greek life, culture and values far abroad and this empire became known as the Hellenistic world. Greece's amazing engineering achievements and ideas are still with us today.

On what it's like working for Twitter: "It's a great work environment. You enjoy great freedom in what you want or do not want to do." On how the way of working there differs from Greece: "The role of management is not to tell you what you do on a daily basis, but to direct you correctly and help you overcome any obstacles. I feel that I have the freedom to go to who ever I want. For example, if I have a serious issue and I want to talk to the General Manager, he will be happy to hear me out." On how someone can work for Twitter: "Many companies in San Francisco have paid internship programs. Twitter takes care of all the bureaucracy with regard to the visa and other practical issues. You can come here and gain valuable experience, see how life is in San Francisco, and see how the tech industry works." On how he would like to help Greece: "It could be, for example, a tool that would help Greeks find work more easily or something that would improve how education in Greece works or something that would help Greek families in a difficult financial situation."
